                  INTERVIEW TIPS

Before an Interview

  • Know where the interviews are taking place

  • Know how to get there

  • Be there 15 minutes before the interview starts

  • Be Smartly dressed

  • Get as much information as you can on the organization and position you are being interviewed for

During an Interview

  • Listen carefully to the questions

  • Answer the questions and give answers that are straight to the point

  • Be professional but don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through

  • Do not give YES or NO answers to open ended questions

  • Try not to be too nervous because this could negatively affect your thinking and consequently your answers

  • Be confident

  • Tell the interviewers about your negative reference if you know you have any 

  • Inform your interviewer about your dismissal if you have been fired before.

  • Maintain eye contact with your interviewer

  • Pay attention to your nonverbal behavior

  • Do not be too apologetic to your interviewer over nothing; it gives the impression that you are not firm or confident.

  • Be positive, if you are asked about a low grade or a weakness in your background, do not be defensive.

  • Do not tell your interviewer about how horrible your previous employer was (even when he/she really was horrible)

  • Do not be afraid of pausing shortly, you may need a few seconds to formulate an answer.

  • Find out when to expect an answer

After an Interview

  • Follow up, find out whether you made it or not

  • If you were not successful, find out why

  • Do not call your interviewer to tell them you know why you will not make it before they confirm your success or not.

  • If you are successful, notify your employer if you are interested in the position or not.

  • If you are successful, do not resign before you sign your new contract

  • Never use abusive language against your interviewer if you are unsuccessful, you would not be considered for other vacancies
